To drive legally in Qatar, you need a driving license. The minimum age is 18 for light vehicles and 21 for heavy vehicles. This guide outlines the streamlined process for obtaining, converting, or renewing a Qatar driving license.

Steps to Obtain a Qatar Driving License

1. Choose a Driving School

Enroll in a government-authorized driving school equipped with modern vehicles. All schools follow the same curriculum set by the Ministry of Interior (MOI).

2. Apply for NOC (No Objection Certificate)

  • Qataris: Males do not need an NOC; females require guardian approval.
  • Expatriates: Obtain NOC from your sponsoring company through the MOI e-portal or the Metrash mobile app.

3. Eye Test

A vision test is mandatory. You can either:

  • Take the test at the driving school (if available) or
  • Visit a recognized ophthalmologist. Fees range from QR 25 to QR 50.

4. Choose a Course

Select a suitable driving course. If you hold a foreign driving license and have experience, you may qualify for a shorter course after approval from the Traffic Department.

5. Submit Documents and Pay Fees

Prepare and submit the following documents:

  • Valid Qatar ID
  • NOC (if required)
  • 3 recent passport-sized photos
  • Eye test certificate
  • Original foreign driving license (if applicable)

Driving school fees vary from QR 250 to QR 600.

6. Theory Lesson & Test

Learn traffic rules and regulations through theory lessons. You’ll take an online test consisting of 40 questions, where you need to answer at least 37 correctly.

7. Practical Lessons

After passing the theory test, you’ll receive practical training on the road with an instructor. You’ll learn essential driving techniques and skills.

8. Road & Parking Test

Once confident in your skills, schedule your road test, where a traffic officer will assess your driving. After passing, you’ll take a parking test, including parallel and perpendicular parking.

Upon successful completion of both tests, you will receive your driving license immediately.

Additional Information

  • For Qatari Nationals: Must have a valid residence permit (QID).
  • For Non-Qataris: Provide ID card copies, a sponsor’s approval letter, and other required documents.

Using Metrash2 for NOC

  1. Log into the Metrash2 app.
  2. Select “Traffic.”
  3. Choose “License Service.”
  4. Request “License NOC” and enter the required details.
  5. Review and submit your request.

Using the MOI E-Portal

  1. Visit moi.gov.qatar and log in with your smartcard.
  2. Navigate to “Traffic Services” and select “Driving License.”
  3. Request NOC by filling in the necessary information and confirm.

GCC Countries

Also, If your country comes under GCC ( The Gulf Cooperation Council ) then you also do not need to follow the whole procedure you can easily obtain your driving license by showing your country driver license. You need to pass the eye exam and need to submit the following documents:
